EDIT: Fixed up the shading in a few areas to make the drawing looked neater. Now I think I'm done.. , and very happy with it indeed.. I haven't worked with composition since UNMASKED and almost forgot how hard it was just to make each part of the drawing flow together.
I want to dedicate this drawing to my good friend and great artist =DavidDeb
who gave me a link with TONS of LOTR screen shots to choose from.
It took me a long time to decide what to do with all of the potential references I had. There're too many things that I could do.. Draw portraits of each character individually? Put all of them in one paper? Draw main characters in a movie poster-style? Too many possibilities.. In the end I just made it simple and started from the beginning.
It's very likely that I'd draw a few LOTR fanarts but I decided to start my first piece with the innocence and cluelessness of Frodo and Sam and with the eagerness and uncertainty of Gandalf.
I don't know what my next drawing are going to be but here I started, where the first three of the fellowship started their journey to save the world.
I chose the references that reflected their personality. Some people asked why Frodo looked so scared, umm...that expression's pretty much his treadmark, isn't it?..lol.
I decided to make the shading on Frodo darker and more defined than Sam and Gandalf because I wanted the picture to tell the story how he's the center of this journey.
I hope I did the movie justice... Honestly I can't wait to draw Aragorn and Legolas..
Pencils on A4 Canson drawing paper
A lot of hours.. Sorry I really have no idea how long it took.
